Who runs this site
Holt Universe (holtuniverse.com) is a family history site for the descendants of Landon and Rebecca Holt of Pike County, Kentucky. It’s run by Barrett Holt. For any privacy question or request, use the button to send him an email.
What’s public and what’s private
- Public: the home page, the story pages under /stories/, and this page. Public pages don’t name any living person except Barrett.
- Private: everything in the family area, which sits behind a family sign-in.
How family sign-in works
- Barrett adds each family member’s email address one at a time. There are no shared passwords.
- When you sign in, Cloudflare emails you a one-time PIN. You enter it, and you stay signed in for up to one month. Cloudflare saves a sign-in cookie in your browser for that month. It’s the only cookie the site uses.
- Only addresses on the list can get in. You can ask to be taken off the list at any time.
Corners
Some family members have a corner, a private page of their own. A corner can be seen only by that family member and Barrett, unless the owner asks to share it with others.
Living people and opting out
- Holt Universe follows an opt-out policy. Living family members may appear in the private family area, with names, photos and family relationships, unless they ask not to.
- Living people never appear on public pages, except Barrett.
- The children of living family members aren’t named anywhere on the site.
- If you’d like your information, or your family’s, removed or corrected, contact Barrett. You don’t need to give a reason, and the change will be made as soon as possible.
Photos and documents
- Most photos and documents come from family members. If you shared something and want it taken down, or you see a photo of yourself you’d rather not have here, ask and it’ll be removed.
- Public records, such as National Archives pension files and court records, may be shown and quoted.
- Images of DAR applications aren’t posted, in keeping with DAR’s rules.
- Please don’t copy family photos or private material from the site to share elsewhere without the family’s permission.
What information is collected
- The email addresses on the family sign-in list.
- Cloudflare’s sign-in records, showing which address signed in and when. These are used only to run and protect the sign-in.
- A visitor counter may be added. If it is, it’ll count page views without cookies and won’t identify anyone.
- The site has no ads, no tracking and no sign-up forms. Nothing is sold, rented or shared with anyone for marketing.
Services the site uses
- Cloudflare hosts the site and runs the family sign-in.
- GitHub stores the site’s files in a private repository.
- The site’s fonts are stored on the site itself. It doesn’t load Google Fonts or any other outside scripts.
- The Facebook group is a link only. The site doesn’t load any Facebook code. Once you’re on Facebook, Facebook’s own privacy policy applies.
- The Contact button opens your own email program. Nothing is sent through the site.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new effective date.
